The Rowan Building was designed in 1911 by John Parkinson, architect of City Hall and the Pacific Stock Exchange, and G. Edwin Bergstrom, famed designer of The Pentagon.
The firm of Parkinson & Bergstrom also designed the Los Angeles Athletic Club, Alexandria Hotel, and original Bullock’s Department Store. It is a beautifully preserved and retrofitted (in 2009) Historic Building with all the historic charm, elegance, and curb appeal that makes the building a gem in Downtown Los Angeles.

The Rowan's History
In 1911, Robert A. Rowan, Sr., president of R.A. Rowan and Company financed the construction of the Rowan Building. Architects John Parkinson (Los Angeles City Hall, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum) and G. Edwin Bergstrom (Los Angeles Athletic Club, the Pentagon in Washington D.C.) designed the Beaux Arts and Classical Rowan Building. Built from 3000 tons of steel, this building stands as a cornerstone of the DTLA Historic Core. Rowan was responsible for many Los Angeles business district office towers built during the 1910s: Title Insurance Building (directly across the street from the Rowan Building); Security Building; and the Title Guaranty Building.
Because of the concerted preservation effort for this exceptional building, owners are granted a significant property tax benefit.
